Jarrell ISD—Jarrell Ranch Middle School

In this fast-growth district, Jarrell Ranch Middle School serves 700 students in grades 6-8. During pre-design, stakeholders prioritized the design of a secure outdoor courtyard to serve multiple uses for activities during school and after hours. All first-floor interior spaces, including dining, library, fine arts, and CTE programs, have a direct connection to the courtyard. Band, Dance, Choir, and Theater Arts have all found a home in the building design.
Design
Jarrell Ranch Middle School is grounded in a culture of trust and excellence, with a central courtyard anchoring the campus experience. The design reflects a belief in student independence while encouraging exploration and growth. With all first-floor interior rooms having direct access to the courtyard, the design encourages an active learning environment and healthy, natural light, while also prioritizing safety and connectivity.
Value
Serving as a refined template for the district, Jarrell Ranch includes durable and streamlined finishes, local resources, and cost-efficient plans for imminent growth in the district. The project creates adaptable spaces that maximize space and support evolving educational trends.
Wellness
Earliest discussions about JRMS were focused on a student-first design. A strong connection to nature is woven throughout the campus with abundant natural daylight and access to outdoor learning environments. Flexible furnishing and adaptable layouts allow for more student agency and finding a learning space that supports their learning style. Aligning design with the district’s educational goals, JRMS fosters a holistic learning experience that empowers students and staff.
Community
Jarrell Ranch Middle School stands as a product of a truly connected community and school district. When the time came to address the growing needs of JISD, the community didn’t hesitate. They came together in support of a bond referendum, understanding that schools built today shape the community’s tomorrow.
Planning
The addition of the district’s second middle school was a strategic response to the rapid growth in student enrollment. Multiple committees across the district collaborated to develop a comprehensive plan that meets current needs while also positioning JISD to successfully support its continued growth well into the future.
School Transformation
JRMS exemplifies what a modern learning environment can be. It serves as a dynamic hub for collaboration, growth, and student well-being. The campus was designed as an adaptive, student-centered facility that supports a variety of learning styles, teaching methods, and collaborative experiences.
