Angleton ISD—Angleton High School CTE Center

As part of the 2019 Bond projects for Angleton ISD, PBK was tasked with designing the new Angleton Technology Education (CTE) Center. The new 127,715 S.F. Center is located on Angleton ISD High School’s campus and was built to accommodate an enrollment increase in AISD’s CTE curricula of over 1,100 additional students in just one academic year. The new building houses programs for Culinary Arts, Horticulture, Vet Tech, Ag Fabrication, Engineering/Robotics, Welding, Construction Sciences, Digital Design/AV Production, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Education, and Law Enforcement. Cosmetology, Vet Tech, and Culinary Arts accommodate direct patronage access from the community.
Design
Inspired by a town centre streetscape, the design empowers students to socialize, focus, be curious and be creative. Highlighting a main street was crucial for student engagement with the new addition. A well-connected network of paths led to this central avenue. Students were encouraged to explore curated programs and use corridors for socializing and collaborative thinking. Secluded nooks offered spaces for individual or small-group study sessions.
Value
Our cte provides state of the art facilities that will provide real world experience for our students…” The implementation of the new cte and high school renovation project demonstrated cost savings by renovating the existing high school facility, rather than pursuing the construction of a new building. The incorporation of certification programs within the cte center played a significant role in cultivating responsible individuals who contribute to the economic welfare of both the community and local industries. The new facility offered exceptional training resources and underscored the community’s and businesses’ recognition of the profound value in fostering a skilled and educated workforce.
Wellness
Angleton’s CTE center prioritizes wellness by enhancing physical conditions such as air quality, daylighting and incorporating green spaces. Dedicated spaces for collaboration and individual study contribute to social wellness. The health sciences program plays a direct role in promoting community wellness by supplying proficient professionals to the industry and actively contributing to local health and wellness initiatives.
Community
The CTE center serves as a pivotal nexus for community engagement, offering an array of certification programs including welding, agriculture, it, robotics, health sciences, vet tech, cosmetology, a/v and digital design, rotc, and education. The center makes a direct and substantial contribution to the local community through accessible services provided by the vet tech, cosmetology, and culinary arts programs. Its thoughtful design fosters collaboration and serves as a venue for community events, creating a platform for students to showcase their acquired skills.
Planning
In 2019, Angleton ISD initiated a strategic master planning process to address growth and facility needs. The approved 2019 bond led to the construction of a new CTE facility, focusing on job growth programs like welding and agriculture. The facility features four specialized welding labs for different skill levels. The classrooms facing the main street have glazed walls, promoting transparency and interaction, while lab spaces connect through overhead doors. Additionally, former CTE spaces were renovated into twenty-seven new core classrooms, increasing student capacity within the existing high school and creating an optimal learning environment.
School Transformation
There is much more potential; we can grow the program…we can give these kids opportunities they didn’t have before,” the new CTE center and high school renovation increased cost savings by adding classrooms to the existing high school, therefore eliminating the need for a new high school facility. Moreover, it created intrinsic value by enabling the district to produce economically responsible adults through certification programs at the CTE. This benefits the local economy and industries. By equipping students and teachers with top-notch facility resources, the new cte supports the development of an educated workforce, crucial for community and business success.
