Designed with future growth in mind, the facility also includes shell space for additional programs. Aesthetically, it reflects the existing campus while introducing a bright, modern interior that inspires learning and supports student success.
Strategically positioned to supply top-tier talent to the region’s medical institutions, the Center not only strengthens Galveston College’s role as a healthcare education leader but also contributes to the long-term vitality of the local economy and access to superior medical care. This facility sets a new standard for workforce readiness in the health sciences field.”
Design
Scale, proportion, rhythm and materials were reinterpreted to create a contemporary building that would be reflective of its purpose, attract talented students and faculty, while enhancing the campus’s identity by paying homage to campus traditions and local island culture. Diverse spaces allow for learning in a variety of different types of settings, including high-tech, purpose-built, simulation labs; flexible classrooms; team-based collaborative areas, and spaces for individual focus. Each has its own character and views.
Value
“The Health Sciences Center has implemented a comprehensive strategy to protect the College’s infrastructure and contribute to a resilient campus and a safer community environment. The building was deliberately raised to a higher elevation than required by the local authority to address long-term expectations for sea level rise along the Texas coast.
Exterior materials, structural components, and equipment are designed to exceed code requirements for hurricane zones, ensuring that the facility will weather the environmental impact of its surroundings for years to come.”
