“This School of Choice, 2-story Fine Arts Academy is a significant symbol within the community of Temple, as it is the first new school to open since 1998. It pays homage to Visionary Leaders who advocated for the arts and fought for acceptance and inclusion in the district and across Texas. The Academy serves as a dynamic learning facility and community cornerstone that was designed to empower, educate and inspire.
First of its kind in the region, the fine arts programs, including orchestra and theatre, are not extracurricular, they are foundational, and integrated into daily curriculum. From the moment students enter the academy, creative programs are highlighted and present throughout campus. The intentional use of color and shape sparks curiosity and imagination while helping young students navigate the different spaces on campus with ease.
To provide students with the opportunity to experience different learning and engagements styles, there are various gathering spaces located throughout the Academy both interior and exterior that differ from a traditional classroom setting, fostering collaboration, creativity, and connection. Large windows thought-fully placed in corridors, classrooms and large key spaces such as the dining hall and library, create a warm, welcoming environment that boosts the student’s mood and energy. The campus includes a “cocooned” outdoor learning and play area, a full-size gym, larger than typical library, and a black box theatre.
This vibrant campus not only serves its students, but represents the progress, unity, and artistic excellence that has been happening within the Temple community.”
Design
“A 2 Story PreK-5 academy, focused on teaching and learning through creative expression.
Biophilic elements, color, and texture play a key role in the design, making use of natural light and creating a sense of place and connection to nature.
The academy offers spaces for varied student learning and engagement styles.
A secure outdoor plaza “”cocoons”” students while providing opportunities for both learning and play.”

“As a school of choice this campus brings immense and unique value to the community.
Intentional design provides flexibility and multiple uses of campus spaces.
In the interest of saving time and dollars the concept referenced a previous design, with modifications made to best suit the needs and vision of the district and community.
Compact 2-story layout was developed to create ease of circulation and efficiencies throughout.”
Wellness
“There are lots of opportunities to be active, including a full-size gym. Students are safe to play and learn outdoors with a ‘cocooned’ outdoor learning and play area.
Natural light throughout brings a sense of wellness and tranquility. Transparency within the campus allows for connection to others and to nature.
A Sense of place, inclusion and belonging is created through thoughtful layout and use of color and textures.”

“Nestled on the East side of the city, this area of the community is known for diversity of culture and growth.
This academy highlights the importance of the arts in the community since the mid 20th century.
The new campus has immense significance as it pays homage to Visionary Leaders who championed the arts and fought for acceptance and inclusion in the city and across Texas.”
Planning

District leadership was exceptionally diligent during campus tours and planning to ensure an inclusive processthat would best reflect this unique community.
Careful attention was given to timelines and cost during the process.
Site layout is planned to accommodate future adjacent Junior High, allowing for shared amenities.”

“Elevating the Fine Arts program to magnet-school intensity. Increasing the physical presence and community profile of the high school. Anchoring the Facility in traditional and contemporary local culture. Elevating the profile of each of the arts pursuits: fine art, music, and drama. Enabling college-level AP studies with well-resourced classrooms. Enriching the school experience of all students who participate through the collaborative nature of band, choir, and drama programs. Providing professional equipment to add value to hands-on instruction in theater technology and musical performance.
