2025 — Ponder High School

Ponder ISD — Ponder High School
Architect: WRA Architects

The new replacement for Ponder High School is located west of the existing football stadium on a 68-acre new site. The new two-story landmark can initially accommodate 800 students in grades 9-12, with core areas designed for an ultimate capacity of 1,200 students. The design was developed with a wide cross section of District and community input, including student collaboration. Primary areas include an open double volume media center / library, a 1,260-seat competition gymnasium, a practice gym, an 800-seat auditorium, and flexible Career and Technology Education (CTE) facilities which include agricultural, woodworking, and metalwork shops. The project also features a large outdoor learning courtyard carefully designed with excellent views overlooking the football stadium. Future planned additions will include classrooms for the additional 400 students and a second practice gym.

Design

“Designing for Connection, Collaboration, and Community

Ponder High School reimagines the modern educational environment by centering design around connection, collaboration, and community. Anchoring the campus is a double-height Media Center. More than a library, it’s the heart of student life. Open, inviting, and central to the layout, it encourages spontaneous interaction, cross-disciplinary engagement, and flexible academic use.

The school’s layout wraps efficiently around this media center, forming a compact footprint that enhances flow and visibility. Collaborative zones are interwoven throughout academic wings, creating seamless transitions between classrooms and flexible spaces for group learning or future program expansions.

Each element of the design supports adaptability and growth, making sure the campus evolves alongside the community it serves. This design delivers a responsive, student-focused environment built to evolve with educational needs.”
